In a decade where technology is rapidly transforming healthcare, the Digital Health Nation Innovation Booster, supported by Innosuisse, is proud to announce its 2024 cohort – 20 pioneering projects set to redefine digital health. The innovation booster is designed to identify and nurture the most promising radical innovations that can address the complex challenges faced by the healthcare industry today. These projects were chosen from a highly competitive pool of applications, each one embodying cutting-edge technology and an innovative approach that aims to enhance patient care, streamline healthcare delivery, and improve outcomes.

The selection process involved an esteemed panel of experts, evaluating ideas based on criteria such as innovation potential, scalability, and the ability to make a tangible impact on Switzerland’s healthcare system. The chosen projects comprise a diverse range of solutions, from enhancing patient engagement and improving diagnostic tools to developing new models for value-based care and increasing the adoption of digital health tools among healthcare professionals.

Patient engagement and empowerment

AutismCare is an AI-powered app-based solution that provides instant, personalized training and resources for parents and caregivers with children diagnosed with a mild form of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD to effectively implement evidence-based interventions and strategies in the home and school settings.
Utilizing state-of-the-art validated and automated bioinformatics and biostatistical workflows, DATABIOMIX aims to provide companies with fast and detailed insights into the microbiota of various environments and organisms, including the human gut, food and nutrition.

Neuropathy Companion is bringing years of research to the patientto, to address a clinically relevant unmet need:
offering a treatment solution for neuropathies.
mindground is developing a solution to combat pathological dissociation, a psychiatric symptom that occurs across many different diagnoses.
PatientEd is an innovative digital health solution that uses conversational AI-powered digital human avatars to deliver personalized, engaging, evidence-based health information to patients prior to medical intervention, a legally binding and otherwise time-consuming process.
Smilamind developing an evidence-based digital mental health care application that is tailored to the needs of adolescents facing the first symptoms of mental disorders. It aims to strengthen their mental health, increase their health literacy, and avoid long-term or constantly recurring symptoms.

Healthcare information quality, access, and interoperability

Alpinasana’s AI-based food tracker will automatically track and analyze patients’ nutritional intake by installing a 3D cam above treadmills in hospital kitchens. If a patient consumes less than 75% of their daily recommended intake, the nutritional staff will be informed to take appropriate action.
dEEGtal is developing an AI-powered digital biomarker of epilepsy, embedded in a software solution, which will help neurologists to diagnose epilepsy more rapidly and accurately after the occurrence of a first seizure.
HealthNavigator by docjo transforms disease management by integrating incentives and gamification. The app empowers patients to manage their health effectively with personalized programs and rewards.
PlaynVoice is a SaaS tool that streamlines healthcare documentation by automating the transcription of patient interactions and generating essential medical documents, integrating seamlessly into existing workflows to reduce administrative burdens and alleviate professional burnout. Its AI-driven accuracy improves detail, ensuring compliance with Swiss regulations, while prioritizing data security and allowing healthcare professionals to focus on patient care.
Skaaltec is developing an intelligent neurorehabilitation system called SmartVNS (intelligent Vagus Nerve Stimulation). SmartVNS uses movement tracking to automatically and non-invasively activate specific neural circuits to boost the speed and efficiency of motor recovery after conditions like stroke.

Value-based healthcare

Beyond Diagnostics aims to revolutionize diabetes treatment by developing a point-of-care test for insulin efficacy, allowing for more precise drug administration and thereby improve insulin stability during treatment. The project’s aspiration is to reduce insulin wastage, lower healthcare costs, and enhance care globally.
SARCOMECTOR is a novel AI-powered prediction model enhancing value-based sarcoma patient care with quality benchmarking. It will deliver a personalized prediction model to accelerate diagnosis and ensure the best possible treatment plan for cure while optimizing quality of life.
SENAI for mental health is a joint project of aisiiu GmbH and OST. SENAI’s technology enables the detection of the early signs of possible future mental disorders through analysis of activity, video, and audio on a smartphone.
SENAI’s app discreetly detects changes in mood and attention earlier than the usual symptoms of postpartum depression. Sensor data processed with AI algorithms provides advice for proactive, personalized self-care without disrupting the daily routine of caring for a newborn or adding extra demands.
TrueYouOmics (TYO) offers a comprehensive multi-omic health risk assessment by integrating DNA, RNA, and protein data from a blood test going beyond predisposition. The approach combines biomedical knowledge graphs and network models for disease risk estimation and prevention planning. TYO empowers individuals with control over their health and saves MDs time in screening and diagnostics.

(HCP) education and adoption of digital tools

By using patient engagement technology (different commercial hardware setups, body tracking code, artificial intelligence and a serious game platform) combined with therapist tools, AwakeningVR engages healthcare professionals and families to achieve pediatric motor and cognitive (re)habilitation goals.
neurodAIgnostics’ vision is a world in which neurological and psychiatric conditions are promptly and accurately diagnosed and treated. It uses artificial intelligence to improve the speed and accuracy of clinical neuropsychological assessments.
Nutrai’s Foodscanner automates the monitoring of patients’ food intake using cameras in hospital kitchens, eliminating the need for manual documentation. Successfully piloted at the Felix Platter Spital in Basel, it improves nutrition management with accurate, real-time data to transform hospital nutrition therapy.
The demand for effective lung cancer detection and screening is rising. However, traditional methods like CT scans often struggle to distinguish malignant pulmonary nodules from benign ones, leading to high false positive rates and unnecessary biopsies. OncoSwab is developing a point-of-care test that can be performed in various healthcare settings. Its innovative approach leverages AI and machine learning to integrate non-invasive biomarkers with imaging results and lifestyle factors, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and significantly reducing the alarming rate of false positives.
This app under development by OrthoSens aims to manage advanced 3D printed implants.

These projects not only showcase the innovative spirit but also highlight the collaborative effort needed to address complex healthcare issues. The Digital Health Nation Innovation Booster serves as a catalyst, bringing together diverse teams to share knowledge, develop solutions, and drive the future of healthcare innovation through open innovation.
