DayOne Experts at EMBO/Basel Life: “Ethics of data in a world of personalized health”
The revolution in human genetics is helping usher in genome-based therapies and the practice of Precision Medicine. This change comes with an avalanche of personal data and the digitisation of traditional healthcare data.
The next big breakthroughs for healthcare will depend on the efficient capture and analyses of this information for biomarkers for a range of human diseases – like diabetes, hypertension, and dementia. On the other side lies the contentious issue of privacy intrusion should this data be made public where individual liberties may be at stake.
Striking the balance between public health needs and individual privacy is key for all stakeholders (health insurance companies, hospitals, patients, entrepreneurs) for this field to move forward. The speakers for this session, which is supported by BaselArea.swiss and Swiss TPH, will speak on these issues and from different perspectives, followed by a panel discussion to engage all participants on the future of healthcare.
