DayOne Experts «Treating rare disorders – a role model for precision medicine?»

A disease is considered rare if it affects less than 1 in 2000 people. According to this definition in Europe a rare disease can affect between a handful of patients and up to 245’000. The number of persons in the EU suffering from one of the over 6000 different identified rare diseases is estimated at over 30 million equalling 6 to 8 percent of the population.

While neglected for decades, the healthcare industry has taken up the issue of rare diseases in recent years. At our next DayOne Expert Event we will take a closer look at what drives the increased interest, raising the question if the science, activism and the economic models behind the development of treatments in rare disorders could be the paradigm for future healthcare innovation in precision medicine - which intention is exactly this: to make healthcare more personalized and effective by proposing the right intervention at the right time to the right person at the right dose, decreasing the number of patients at the same time. Learn more at our next DayOne Expert Event, taking place
