Since its launch in 2018, we have built a platform for collaborative innovation across disciplines and industries. We have done so by accelerating startups, launching catalyst projects, and hosting events to bring healthcare innovation ventures forward. Consequently, we have a community of more than 2000 healthcare innovators, accelerated 20 digital health companies, and 131 employees.
The Accelerator program is customized based on the individual needs of each selected team to maximize their odds of success. Newly added this year, the ventures will each receive up to 15’000 CHF funding for targeted activities. This will contribute to developing them into sustainable and investible businesses. Moreover, the program culminates with a Demo Day event showcasing the teams and their progress.
This year the DayOne Accelerator will launch three verticals to accelerate digital ventures in the field of life science and medical devices. Subsequently, there will be up to 100’000 CHF available for 25 digital health and medtech ventures each year:
- Digital Health Nation for early-stage digital health solutions and a Swiss-wide public-private consortium, powered by Innosuisse
- DayOne Tech for advanced medical technologies and devices at the interface of the microtechnology and manufacturing industry.
- DayOne Health 4.0 calling for its 5th cohort, for early to mid-stage ventures at the interface with pharma
Basel’s location is eminent for success
The Basel Area is home to many leading international companies and a growing number of innovators. According to the latest Swiss Venture Capital Report, investments in Swiss start-ups increased by 44% last year. The gravitational attraction of the Basel Area has made it Europe’s leading healthcare hub at the intersection between Switzerland, Germany, and France.
Basel is among the most future-oriented cities in Europe. fDi Intelligence has investigated the most important tech cities across Europe and Basel secured the top spot for cities up to 350’000 people. In terms of foreign direct investment strategies, the Basel Area was ranked second among the regions with a population of up to 1,5 Mio people.
The value of a cluster comes not from simply having the pieces in the same geographic region. It’s also in the process of collaboration between the institutions, individuals, and structural and financial support to grow. Focused government support is available through the area’s three cantons as well as Basel Area Business & Innovation.
At DayOne, we believe that healthcare can only evolve if it advances hand in hand with collaborative innovation, creating the openness and the right environment for its implementation. Above all, this is where DayOne, as a dedicated healthcare innovation initiative situated in midst of one of the world’s leading life science clusters, is already making the difference.
