DayOne Conference – Shaping the Future of Health

Make September 9, 2019 your personal DayOne of healthcare innovation. More than 400 innovators, patients and experts across industries and disciplines will come together to explore, discuss and help shape new ideas and redefine healthcare. This year’s edition of the DayOne Conference will take place at the FHNW Campus Muttenz, located just a couple of minutes by train from Basel.

As technology continues to develop at a great pace, the DayOne Conference will seek answers to crucial questions: Is the industry ready for the future? Can we deliver on the promise of digital transformation? Do we have the right mindset? Additionally, what fundamental changes need to be considered concerning society, future skills, ethics and business models enabling the next big step?

The 2019 edition of the DayOne Conference aims to tap into the basic contradiction which stands at the very heart of every innovation: How can we create a better world and provide the needed return on investment?

The first panel session "The ethics of breaking the rules" will raise the question to what extent innovation is hindered by adherence to traditional values, while the establishment of new ethical principles inevitably lags behind technological development. Especially societies with high ethical and legal standards are challenged to find the right balance if they do not want to be left behind in the global competition for innovation.

The second panel session “Financing healthcare innovation – beyond venture capital" is questioning whether standard ways of investing in digital healthcare innovation are limited due to the lack of IP protection, high regulatory requirements and slow ecosystem adaption. The panellists will also look at new approaches in the aftermath of the ICO craze opening the field for digitally empowered cooperatives.

The second part of the conference is all about open innovation. Participants will be invited to actually walk the talk by supporting and advising more than 20 innovation projects including the applicants for the DayOne Acceleration Run 2019/2020. This hands-on design thinking exercise will bring together industry expertise and entrepreneurial energy.
